Japanese Flowering Spring: Magnolia
This composition takes its inspiration from the celebrated cherry blossoms which flood Japan each year in a sea of trees awash in perfect pink blooms known as "sakura." For centuries, elite imperial courtiers, poets, painters, and lovers have obsessed over the alluring and mysterious flower, which is often cited as a symbol of the transient nature of life.

Paradoxically, the ornamental Japanese Magnolia is actually a native of the Chinese provinces of Sichuan and Yunnan. This cheerfully beloved deciduous transient has been cultivated and exported worldwide in celebration of its flawless and profuse springtime blooms. In this composition flowering pink blossoms gently clutched by admiring branches prevail over morning mist. In ancient cultures, the magnolia symbolized beauty and gentleness.
