Koi Part 2: School

Golden koi parade in a secluded azure spring in harmonious yet impassioned magnificence.  The origin of the word "koi" dates to ancient Japan when referring to the most wild and pure species of carp.  In earlier Chinese mythology, there was a place called "Dragon's Gate" on the Yellow River atop a large waterfall.  If a koi were able to traverse the challenge, it was said that they would transform into a dragon.
This magnificent composition is one of a two-part series featuring rich golden hues against a deep cobalt blue.

The vibrantly colorful parakeets in this composition capture the viewers attention by obsessively returning their gaze with passionate playfulness.  Their paradoxical disparate yet complimentary plumage features subtle yellows, rich blues, golden oranges, and profound greens-- all uniting in a crescendo of visual climax.

Jerry
0.00 0.0 USD
This composition is dedicated to the iconic American musician and pillar of the “Grateful Dead,” Jerry Garcia.
Named after a composer and born in San Francisco, music was enstilled and encouraged by his family and teachers at an early age. Growing up in and around Menlo Park, Jerry emerged as a founder of the Grateful Dead in the early 1960s. Soon thereafter, he became an American icon.
Beyond the quality and craftsmanship of the 20+ gold or platinum certified albums released over his lifetime attesting to the quality of his music, Jerry just made you feel good and happy.
He “owned” the guitar, effortlessly improvising with the band while supplying beloved vocals in perfect harmony. Studio recordings were good... but live was so much better.  Those were the days. You are very missed.
P.S. Thanks to John Mayer, who recently called it "the honor of a lifetime" to play with Dead & Co. Together, they're keeping Jerry's great music alive.

Paradoxically, the ornamental Japanese Magnolia is actually a native of the Chinese provinces of Sichuan and Yunnan. This cheerfully beloved deciduous transient has been cultivated and exported worldwide in celebration of its flawless and profuse springtime blooms.  In this composition flowering pink blossoms gently clutched by admiring branches prevail over morning mist.  In ancient cultures, the magnolia symbolized beauty and gentleness.

These abstracts evoke the mystery of ancient Aztec architectural forms and the contrasts between simple and elegant versus bold and powerful.
The Aztecan city of Tenochtitlan would become the world's largest city by the 16th century, and the seat of an expansive empire. Important features of the city included a the royal palace, a central plaza, temples, shrines, pyramids, courtyards, lush gardens, and even ball courts. While construction initiatives were limited to primitive tools and manual labor, their engineers had deployed precise mathematical techniques based on a "vigesimal" system, which is only now being understood by modern archaeologists.

Ibis Part 2: The Five
0.00 0.0 USD
The gallant colony of ibis depicted in this composition stand out against the shadows of their bronzen environment.  These frequent inhabitants of wetlands, forests and plains with their characteristic crescent moon profiles were renowned in ancient Egyptian, Greek and Roman cultures, most prominently in portrayals of the Egyptian deity Thoth:  the god of writing, magic and wisdom.
This work can function independently or perfectly compliment and accompany its partner "Ibis Four" in a two-set pair.
