They are bright and cheery, and as warm and inviting as the sweet summer sun. With brilliant yellow petals, also known as “rays,” sunflowers have an unmistakable sun-like appearance that has made them a crowd favorite, especially in the summer months.
Sunflowers symbolize adoration, loyalty and longevity. Much of the meaning of sunflowers stems from its namesake, the sun itself. These flowers are unique in that they have the ability to provide energy in the form of nourishment and vibrancy—attributes which mirror the sun and the energy provided by its heat and light.
Sunflowers are known for being “happy” flowers, making them the perfect gift to bring joy to someone’s (or your) day.

This composition is inspired by the ancient Berber seafaring city-state of Tangier. Situated opposite the Straits of Gibraltar, the city is said to be named after Tingis, the daughter of Atlas, the mythical supporter of the heavens. Founded in the 5th century BC by Carthaginian colonists from Greece, it later passed to the ancient Romans as Mauretania Tingitana and then to the Byzantine Empire. Rich orange and golden hues in this abstract evoke symbolism of warmth associated with joy, sunshine, and the Mediterranean/Saharan landscape—representing history, adventure, curiosity, and creativity.

This exquisitely remastered digital rendering of an ancient zodiac evokes the mysticism of a foregone age where astrologers were thought to be magicians, and many were highly respected scholars, believing that the movements of the stars governed the emotions and actions of earthly beings.
In the words of the medieval theorist Kepler, "It is clearly evident that most events of a widespread nature draw their causes from the enveloping heavens."  What the ancients defined as "influx" thus became transformed into our modern vocabulary as "influence."
Who could possibly forget the fabled "star crossed lovers" of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, or these words from the Tempest:

The Blue Crab gets its proper name from Greek and Latin roots which break down to mean, “beautiful-swimmer” and “savory."  I cannot recall ever seeing a crab swim but I do understand the “savory” aspect of the origin of the name.  We put crab meat on just about everything in New Orleans.   
Crabs are bottom-feeders, one of the cleaners of the sea, a noble creature, that gives so much to humanity, and they are so wonderful to observe.

This abstract series is dedicated to Duchess Anna Amalia (1739-1807). As an affluent noble and influential patroness of art and literature, grand-daughter of Frederick the Great of Prussia, Anna Amalia cultivated and supported many of the greatest minds of European theatre—most notably Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Friedrich Schiller (whose poem “An die Freude” formed the nucleus of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony). As an 18th century inspiration for many women to follow, Anna Amalia founded a theatrical company, was a notable symphonic composer, and endowed a library which is now home to over 1,000,000 volumes.

This work was inspired and adapted from the "Voynich Manuscript," a 15th century codex hand-written in an unknown writing system, which may have been composed in Northern Italy during the Italian Renaissance.  The mystery of the meaning and origin of the manuscript has excited the popular imagination, making the manuscript the subject of novels and speculation.

Prior to emerging as a dominant military, financial, and cultural powerhouse, the ancient origins of Venice were that of a quiet maritime community of sailors and fishermen. Its name comes from the ancient Veneti people who inhabited the region by 1,000 BC. Apart from the city-state’s many cultural and historic treasures, the beauty of nature and wonder of the seas is an integral part.
In fact, Lido de Venezia, an 11-kilometre sandbar off the southern tip of Venice, was one of Europe’s most acclaimed destinations for gathering sea shells, which inspire this composition.

The mandala (literally "circle" in Sanskrit) is a metaphysical representation of the universe.While typically associated with Hinduism and Buddhism, mandalas also feature prominently with deep symbolic meaning in Christian art and motifs, as exemplified by the Celtic cross, the rosary, rose windows, the halo, communion wafers, the crown of thorns.
This composition (along with its complement, Florence Mandala) is inspired by the delicate Florentine and Venetian lacework of the late renaissance where the desire for the enrichment of ordinary features manifested itself in embroideries of silk with gold or silver threads.
